Some volumes from the Temple Library
Books are one of my favorite ways of learning new things. The temple bookshelves are for me an intimate representation of my interests, curiosities, and explorations. The case could be made that sex is disproportionationally represented in this collection, but I would contend that it is merely a reflection of a healthy male mind.
I've climbed the rickety bamboo ladder and carefully made my way down with a few volumes from the shelves and thought I would share what I think of them.
Dr. Sadie Allison's Ride'em Cowgirl: Sexual Position Secrets for Better Bucking (http://tinyurl.com/5h3bdt ) is a nicely organized catalog of sexual positions. It continues the old tradition started by the The Joy of Sex of illustrating the positions using drawings (I always assumed that was a trick for getting around some pornography laws, or maybe the ambiguity of the renderings make it easier for us to imagine ourselves in these depictions). The book is a lot of fun, presented in a light and humorous, often bulleted style that gets to the point without a lot of extra talk or drama. How much can you say about sexual positions anyway, lets just get to the action. The main chapters are arranged by major positions with many well illustrated variations. I didn't pick up anything here that I hadn't already thought of, but to be fair there are not a lot of variations you can do here, and I tend to have a very active imagination. There were also some additional chapters which are very nice including chapters on positions for the obese, the pregnant, positions for outdoors, and a chapter called "Vive La Difference" that addresses variations in genitalia and their implications for sexual positions. I had never given it much thought, but the listing of penis types for example, including longer, shorter, thicker, thinner, spongy, springy, and neopolitan. Ok, I made up the neopolitan just to mess with your mind....
